This with 48 x 50 " | 1.20 x 1.25 m relatively large old thangka with scenes from the life of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni showed hardly any textile damage. There was also no extensive paint damage from creases or water. However, there were numerous color damages. The detail photos prove this impressively.
The artists of the Dharmapala Centre have managed to restore the old original image almost perfectly.
Sixty colors were mixed to give the original antique look back to this thangka.
The colors had to match exactly with the preserved original colors of the old picture. The viewer will not be able to tell any difference between the old and new colors.
The effort of mixing these colors to match significantly exceeded the effort of retouching with a brush.
