Very large tsa tsa mold embedded in a wooden frame

S o l d

This with 12.8 " | 32 cm extraordinarily large mold was used for the production of Tsa Tsas with the image of a Lama. The mold in this Tsa Tsa is embedded in a five-sided wooden frame.

The vast majority of old and new Tsa Tsa molds are made of metal for better durability. In ancient Tibet, however, it was also sometimes not possible for technical reasons to produce these better durable molds from metal. Wood and clay were easier to procure, so then also this alternative manufacturing method was chosen. Since this type of tsa tsas had more closure and were accordingly less durable, these molds are very rare to find today.

Tsa Tsas with depicted lamas are relatively rare. Completely unusual, moreover, is also the size and the chosen standing position. The Tsa Tsa bears no inscription, so unfortunately the identity of the depicted person can not be determined. However, it must have been a very significant lama.
