This Tashi Gomang stupa is also called »Wisdom Stupa« and was built on the occasion of Buddha’s first teaching »The four noble truths«. The stupa represents the threefold turning of the wheel of Dharma and contains all teachings Buddha gave. The Tashi Gomang Stupa is known as »Stupa of Many Auspicious Doors« [Tib.: bkra shis sgo mang sku bltams mchod rten che - བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྒོ་མང་མཆོད་རྟེན], representing the Buddha’s first teachings at Deer Park in Sarnath.
This Tsa Tsa is rich in symbolism. The large central Gomang Stupa is flanked on the right and left by inscriptons. They can be attributed to the time of the Indian »Kutila« script - a variant of the Ranjana script - which was used in the 8th to 12th centuries.
The stupas rest on a base of single lotus petals. The upper part of the stupa is decorated with garlands on both sides. The top is crowned by a protective screen.
The design of this Tsa Tsa and the colour of the clay used clearly indicate that it was made in West Tibet.
The age of the Tsa Tsa has left its marks, but these are only visible in the lower outer areas.
