This with 11.6 " | 29 cm exceptionally large and heavy [10 lbs. | 4.5 kg] Tsa Tsa shows the Bodhisattva Vajrapani.

Over 90% of all Tsa Tsas have a size of max. 8 inches / 12 cm. Due to material and manufacturing process, the production of larger Tsa Tsas with increasing size becomes technically more difficult. Only drying is then almost completely impossible. The tablets would break in a very short time. When Tsa Tsas are fired they are more stable but again the stability decreases with increasing size.

Larger panels can of course show more detail. This specimen is a good example of that. The flame aureole surrounding Vajrapani, the vajra in his right hand and his head are depicted with a fine nuance that cannot be shown on smaller Tsa Tsas.

Vajrapani is a famous celestial Bodhisattva, he represents the concentrated power of all Buddhas. He is a complex deity with various forms. He is most frequently encountered in his fierce emanation, in which he is a powerful protector and remover of obstacles.

It is also said that Vajrapani will become the last Buddha to appear in this world cycle. Vajrapaniis often grouped with the Bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri. The three celestial Bodhisattvas are thought of as archangelic protectors, representing the power [Vajrapanai], compassion [Avalokiteshvara] and wisdom [Manjushri].

He fights a spiritual battle against the forces of ignorance, craving and samsara. He is a blue Tantric figure that is surrounded mostly by a flamed halo, and wears a garland of skulls and a wreath of snakes.

The bottom contains a large hole that originally contained mantras. Originally, the tsa tsa was painted in color. Today, unfortunately, the painting has largely faded. Some remnants [his blue sash and the two reddish faces to the right and left of him] are still recognizable, however.
