- The Reverse
The reverse is neither simply smooth nor merely structured by the imprint of the mould. Instead, it clearly shows the texture of a coarse fabric. This appears to have been applied immediately after pressing in order to reinforce and stabilize the reverse.
- The Side Views
The thickness of 1.9 cm is considerable for a piece measuring 9.5 cm in height. The side views clearly show that the relief projects quite strongly from the mould.
- The Aureoles
The double row of bead- or ball-like elements surrounding the individual figures, together with the large outer aureole, is particularly characteristic. The design of the aureoles provides an important indication supporting a possible dating to the 15th - 16th century.
- The Figures
At first glance, the figures may appear somewhat »archaic«. However, this observation alone is not sufficient to support a very early dating. The overall composition already appears relatively developed in formal terms and is carefully organized.
- Summary
Based on the design, the characteristic aureoles, and the distinctive manufacturing features, an origin in Tibet and a date in the 15th -16th century appear plausible.
