Buddha Shakyamuni Thogchak
This Tibetan thogchak depicts the historical Buddha Shakyamuni on its front. His left hand rests on his lap in the meditation mudra. His right hand touches the earth with the tips of his outstretched fingers, the palm turned inward [Bhumisparsha Mudra]. This mudra is one of the most well-known hand gestures in Buddhism and depicts the Buddha at the decisive moment of his enlightenment, when he called upon the earth to bear witness to his spiritual attainment.
In the centre of the second side the seed syllable »O« is depicted;

»Om« is a sacred syllable and an important symbol in Tibetan Buddhism as well as in Hinduism. It is frequently used during meditation and when reciting mantras. In Tibetan Buddhism, »Om« often appears at the beginning of a mantra.
O Mani Padme Hum – is one of the best-known Buddhist mantra associated with Tibetan Buddhism.
Age: The object lacks any characteristic features that would allow even an approximate dating. The heavily worn surface suggests that this thogchak was probably worn on the body by its owner for many years. If it had been a family heirloom, it might subsequently have been passed down from father to son or from mother to daughter. However, this assumption is purely hypothetical and cannot be verified.
