Surgery was banned in Tibet in the eighth century after a failed heart operation on the Queen of Tibet's mother and it gradually disappeared from the medical practice.
One of the main reasons for this were probably the serious hygiene problems in everyday life at the time. Lack of disinfection made every surgical procedure very difficult.
Minor operations like eyes cataract, lungs and abdominal water drainage, and hemorrhoid operation continued nevertheless.
