Old Purses

Rare old Tibetan wallets made of yak leather with coral and turquoise gemstones. They were worn by both men and women on their belts.

Coral beads and silver and gold colored metal pieces and other materials were used for decoration. Coral was especially valuable in ancient Tibet. They originate from the Mediterranean region and were introduced via the Silk Road until the middle of the 16th century. Then they came to India by sea and were then exported to Tibet. They belong to the oldest materials for jewelry and have been used in Tibet since prehistoric times.

Genuine old specimens are hardly offered now. Mostly they are imitation pieces today
