Filigree Gau with corals and turquises

Buddhist Amulet Box

This beautiful gau is extremely finely worked. It has a large coral bead on the front surrounded by filigree wire and another smaller one underneath. To the right and left of the small coral bead are two turquoises.

Click on the download link at the bottom of the page to get a better look at the fine details of the gaus.

In search of valuable contents, gaus were frequently opened after the Chinese occupation of Tibet after 1950. As with most gaus still in existence today, the filling was lost as a result, this gau is empty too.

Condition: the front is undamaged, the back has a small piece broken off the top right corner.
