History of these Paintings
The original paintings are owned by the collection of the Ethnographic Museum of the City of Antwerp - 'Museum aan de Stroom'[Belgium].
They were acquired in 1977 by the Belgian Father R. Verbois. Verbois had bought them, along with a number of other paintings, from a Tibetan monk in 1923 in the former imperial monastery of Wang-zhi-mia [former Jehol Province]
The Rubin Museum of Art - New York has shown the original paintings in 2015.
The paintings give an very detailed explanation on the meditation of the Vairocana Mandala. It is believed that they were ordered by a lama for his Chinese pupils during the 19th century.
The Sanskrit word 'Sarvavid' means 'all-knowing'.
