14.21 Meditation of the Sarvavid Vairocana Mandala

Mediator holds lunar disks

Full View Detail 1 Detail 2 Detail 3

The meditator is sitting in a meditative pose on his throne at the beginning of the actual Mandala meditation. In front of him we see offerings and ritual objects. In each hand he holds lunar disks, on which the syllabele 'Ah' [right hand] and 'Hum' left hand in pink writing are visible. The syllables symbolized male and female principles.

The right circle of smaller disks shows in its centre again 'Ah' and the left one the syllable 'Hum'. Sixteen other lunar disks on each side bear sounds which are to be considered as the germs of the cosmos.

At the top we see Buddha Sakyamuni.
