The artists of Dharmapala Centre have started their work at this very large Thangka during the year 1996 and finished it four years later. After years of enduring work an unique masterpiece of Thangka art with a large size of 71.2 x 50 inches | 178 x 125 cm was created.
The Dakanavakra Mandala is described in the Dakanavakra tantra. It is an extremely large mandala, consisting of three main sections [tilakacakra, vajracakra an brdayacakra], which are further subdivided into a total of thirteen concentric circles.
It includes deities drawn not only from the Hevajra tantra and Samvara tantra, the two main mother tantras, but also from the Guhyasamaja tantra, representative of the Father tantras, and this would indicate that this mandala was created after the main scriptures of the later phase of tantric Buddhism had appeared in order to integrate the content of these texts.
