3.4 Ratnasambhava Mandala [1]

Ratnasambhava belongs to the five Tathagata Buddhas [also Dhyani Buddhas] along with Vairocana, Amogasiddhi, Akshobhya, and Ratnasambhava.

His Tibetan name is »rin chen 'byung gnas.« He is lord of the Buddhas of the »Ratna« [= Jewel] family. These Buddhas transform pride into balancing wisdom. He is associated with the southern region of the world. His body color is yellow.

He holds a wishing jewel [»cintâmani«] in his left. His element is "Earth" and his mount is the horse. His female consort »Mâmakîn« is depicted with a knife and skull bowl.

Ratnasambhava is depicted on a double lotus throne with the »varada-mudrâ« [wish-granting gesture]. In this gesture, the palm of the hand is turned away from the body.
