According to the story, the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, ascended to the heaven known as Trāyastriṃśa to teach the Dharma to his deceased mother, Māyā. After spending some time there, he returned to Earth. This return is called the »Descent from the Heaven of the Gods«.
