This Mandala shows the historic Buddha Shakyamuni on a red background [Tibetan: »Mar Thang«]. He is sitting on a double layewres lotus throne

His right hand shows the gesture of bowing to the earth ["Bhumisparsha" mudra]. It means “touching the Earth and symbolizes the Buddha's enlightenment under the bodhi tree, when he summoned the evil earth goddess Mara.

His left holds a begging bowl.
