The most prominent iconographic feature of the composition is the pair of feet in the center of this special Mandala. Supposed to be golden, the soles are also marked with the auspicious signs: the eight symbols of good luck,: wheel, conch, umbrella, victory banner, two fishes, endless knot, lotus and vase.

Very likely the feet represent the footprint of the historic Buddha Shakyamuni.

At the tope edge are [left to right] Avalokiteshvara, Buddha Shakyamuni und [once again] Avalokiteshvara depicted. At the bottom we see one other manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, Mahakala and Palden Lhamo.

Sometimes Buddhists use symbols representing the Buddha's presence and teaching as substitutes for images of the Buddha himself. In a literal sense the footprint is a reminder of the Buddha's impact on the world
