Full View Detail 1

Shortly after Buddha Shakyamuni enlightenment and before his passing away to Mahaparinibbanna, while residing in Stupa Dhonyataka in South India, he expounded with great compassion, the Kala Chakra Tantra (Wheel of Time Teaching), at the request of King Shambala, for the well-being of gods and men. This excellent and rare teaching suffers no deterioration and survives many Dynasties, by the blessings of many Dhamma Protectors, seen and unseen.

In this human world, King Pundarîka [Tib.: Rigs.lDan.Padma.dKar.po] wrote a 12,000 verses commentary of the doctrine known as Vimolaprabho (Flawless Light). King Pundarka is accepted as the incarnation of Boddhisattva Arya Avalokiteshvara by his subjects and is portrayed as holding a Rosary of the Flawless Pearls of Light and a Lotus of Wisdom.

Rosary of the Flawless Pearls symbolizes the Fully Enlightened State and the Lotus of Wisdom teach us that Perfection must only be attained by Pure Wisdom, as lotuses symbolizes states of human minds, some sunken in the mud, while others paving the ways to reach the Light of Enlightenment, as observed from a pond of lotuses (Samsara Ocean).

Deity Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu (Great Dharma Protector), is holding a canopy over the head of King Pundarka, to protect his mission in expounding The Kala Chakra Doctrine. At His foot, the King Sumitra is on the left and the King Narasimha on the right.

The background of this Thangka is of blue green with Chinese landscape style.
