Many parts of Nepal were affected by the earthquake on April 25, 2015 including Risankhu village in Sindhupalchok was also the most affected district. The Chhyoiphel Kundeling Monastery was hit hard, it almost completely collapsed. Numerous wall paintings were irretrievably destroyed.

With the help of an Indian cultural foundation the renovation was done and completed in 2017.

The Dharmapala Thangka Centre supported this project free of charge with drafts for a complete redesign of all mural paintings. The programme was supervised by chief artist Karsang Lama. After the construction and restoration period of only two years, the monastery was re-inaugurated on 19th April 2019 with a big ceremony.
